Michael Jackson LIVES

Fam and friends, it's been another week. There's a lot going on down here in Lima, so I'll try to keep it brief for you folks who don't want a heavy read.

New Elders
This week, a whole new batch of guys showed up. Because the locals know Spanish, they only stay here for 2 weeks. This is bittersweet because we get to meet the sickest dudes/elders and then we have to say bye, which is tough. Some of our favorites left last week (RIP E. Abreu, our Dominican BOY), but this week we got STACKED with cool roomies and some other sick guys. I'm now super tight with the roomies and a couple of other guys, and we all chop it up before and after classes on the daily. Because of this, it is helping my Spanish big time. Soccer also goes hard with all these boys. Blood, sweat, and tears go into these games, and some of these kids are absolute soccer wizards; they're dead serious, practicing witchcraft with their feet and with the ball. It's loco.

Seasoned Tie Merchant
I'm pretty fresh out on the mish, but I'm making MOVES in the tie trade. With big moves require sacrifices, though. Earlier this week, I made what some people would call a rash decision and traded 1 tie for 2. However, the 1 tie happened to be the “chicks & magnets” tie which my beloved cousin Chase gave to me (sorry, Chase), for 2 absolute heater vintage ties. However, after the trade, it didn't feel right, so I called a retrade, and it is my pleasure to announce the chicks and magnets tie has been REACQUIRED. I also hit a trade with Elder Izaguirre, the new roomie, and we are both very happy with the outcome of that trade. Tie game is on fleek.

¿Quien quieres a ver real Michael Jackson?
This week, one of the new guys that showed up is one of the funniest people I've ever met. His name is Elder Garcia. He's the district leader of the new district, and he's DEAD SET on learning how to sing in English. Typically, we sing a hymn in Spanish, and then he sings one in English (peep the Google Photos). However, one of these nights we were all in their room, and I left the room for a second, but when I came back, he had gotten in his suit and this crazy hat and was saying “who wants to see the real Michael Jackson” and he hit this whole performance for us, and he absolutely killed it. To this day, I'm not sure if MJ himself took form as Elder Garcia to hit that performance for us. It's been a highlight of the mish so far for sure. Peep the Google Photos for videos of this. It's too good.

Not so fun stuff
This week, the morale of the district suffered a blow. People are starting to get tired of the strictness because it is tight here. Both my comps had fallen ill. They were fighting for their life in the baño every night. However, I have nursed them back to health, and they're doing better now. We're down to about 2 and a half weeks left, and everyone's very eager to get out of here and to the field.

Spiritual
Now, on a serious note, I really liked this quote from Elder Stevenson in his conference talk the morning Pres. Nelson got ordained the prophet. He said, “the surrender of our will to the father isn't a surrender at all; it is the start of a great victory." This one hit deep. When we “surrender” our will to God, through him, we are able to experience a sense of joy and fulfillment that nothing else in this life can match. So grateful to be out here on the mission feeling a taste of this deep and everlasting joy. And even more excited to share what that feels like with the people of Paraguay.

Entonces, todo es traquilo aquí.

No more Facebook Messenger for the last couple of weeks here, so hit my email inbox if you're a real one.

Go show love on the Google Photos: [link removed].

Love you all, get after it this week.

Elder Pickett
