"Babe Wake Up Elder Pickett Dropped"

Buenos dias, family and friends! Miss you all already.

It's been a nuts first couple of weeks, so I'm going to try to speed run what's been going on, but I apologize in advance because this might be long, so get comfy. I had a week at home in the MTC, and it was awesome but also tough. Six am to six pm at a desk on Zoom is not fun. However, I still learned a lot and found out how to enjoy it. After that, I hopped on a plane right after saying goodbye to the fam, and now I'm here in Peru at the MTC. Saying goodbye to the fam was not easy. Feel free to cruise by my mom's Instagram for pictures of us all crying. However, I am stoked, and they are stoked for me to be here.

The Peru MTC is loco. It holds about 150 missionaries. My district, which has like 9 of us, is the only English/North American district here; everyone else is from Peru, Bolivia, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, etc. My district is great. Everyone's super hardworking, and the comps are chill. I'm in a trio with 2 other elders, and trios aren't my favorite. However, there is speculation that we are the James/Wade/Bosh trio of missionary work, and we're more dialed than ever.

Positive things:

We play sports in the morning, and it gets REAL. We play basketball, soccer, volleyball every morning, and pickleball with the MTC president and his wife (they're so good). We typically always win in basketball, but we get WIPED in soccer every time. But trust in the process; when the elders and I in my district are out of the MTC, we're gonna be raw, no doubt. By the way, all the locals/native Spanish speakers are so dope; they're the coolest guys. There's one Dominican guy that I've become super tight with that's always going around saying in his heavy accent the only phrase he knows in English, which is "what's up, man." (Try to read that in his accent.) There are videos and pics of all this in the Google Photos, so go take a look. Another massive win is that my Spanish is cruising. I'm learning more and more every day, and I'm now able to chop it up (that means converse for you older folks) with the Latino elders here on the daily. Honestly, some of the best news is that the spirit is very present here. I have already had very powerful experiences here that I am so grateful to have been a part of. It'd take me days to write it all out in this email (especially because I am on a Samsung now) but on a serious note, let's just say God is so real, he is aware of you, and he has big things in store for each and every one of us.

Not so positive:

Even though it's calm here, this place does have its downs. As I mentioned earlier, I am now on a Samsung, and to put it lightly, this phone sucks. Pray for those Android users around you so that they might change their ways. No, but some things are very tough. The food is super hit or miss and is absolutely punishing some of the district members' stomachs. We have class all day and barely any downtime. And I've heard the Peru MTC was strict before I came here, and I can tell you now this is true. This place is like Fort Knox on high alert; they keep it TIGHT. Need to have perfect hair, be in sight of your comp all the time, etc. And because it's smaller, the teachers and staff watch us like hawks. So no shenanigans or funny business flies here. Speaking of hair, the first day I walk in, they brought me over to this chair, and this guy laughed, and so did the other elders. He proceeded to give me his haircut of choice, and because I pleaded with him, he had mercy on me, and I received a decent cut. However, my brother Elder Albrecht did not receive such mercy, and he got absolutely violated. The back of his hair looked like a BMX pump track; it was so uneven. Prayers up for this brother.

Anyways, lots of good stuff going down here in Lima, and todo es bien.

Hit me back with an email or on FB messenger.

Some good stuff in the Google Photos, so go show love.

I'll be back; love you all.
